What is the role of technology in the classroom?

Technology has come a long way especially since the time of Mac's first commercial.  I find it even more surprising that the use of technology within the classroom has become so widely used in classrooms that it is common. The current technology within high school has come a long way from the technology that I was exposed to as a child, I have finally upgraded to a Mac from weird looking boxes. Technology poses both negative and positive factors on adolescents. A typical teen will be tempted to use photo booth or they to log on to their Face Book instead of actually accomplishing work. However utilizing technology students are able to turn in work neatly when their written work is not the easiest thing to read.

1.) Is electronic media better than paper media? Why or why not?
Today I will honestly say that I rely on both paper and electronic media. I feel that electronic media cannot always compare to the feeling of turning each page, sometimes I use newspapers and magazine for projects. It makes projects look even more creative than just typing any font. Electronic media often branches out into other areas of news, which make your experience much more interesting.
2.) Will electronics one day replace everything? If so, when will this happen? What might NOT get replaced?
I believe that one day electronic media will take over paper media, obviously it will take time. Recently people have become more and more obsessed with social networks, almost as if they rely on it for their news. Steadily electronic communications have taken over social communication.People have come to rely on electronics for simple things like talking to someone a block away but in turn has also expanded communication to global extremities. I really do believe that electronic media will take over media.

1.) What do you think about all the wonderful inventions we were supposed to have already according to television?
I think that as humans we tend to imagine more things than we can steadily create. Back to the future has always kept my dreams of having a hover board alive, when i first saw the film i really wanted one. According to the file in about four years we are supposed to have these hover boards. According to the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, our androids are supposed to dream of electric sheep. I will not disagree that having such inventions like hover boards or robot maids are tempting but we will probably not reach sentinel police forces by 2013.
2.) What will people do with the Internet in the next five to ten years that has not been done yet?
I honestly think that technology can reach places, but not as far as hover boards just yet.  I really do hope that we can get little tablets that can work like laptops, these panels can configure themselves into different sizes. That is my hope, but thinking realistically we just might switch all Internet to wi-fi. It seems as if over time the main purpose of technology is to make things easier and not have to use as many wires as before.  I remember seeing Futurama and how Fry was both surprised and disappointed in the future, he thought that man-kind would reach farther but in some ways it did. I just honestly hope that certain actions will be easier to perform.

Should people have an alternate identity online?
Most people have an online identity, similar to the concepts that the video Growing Up Online discussed. A copious amount of teenagers feel that online they are the "real" them. They feel as if others, perhaps in a similar position, will support them. But there are also times when having online identities can generate consequences. When someone has an online identity and on their Face book they post "risky" pictures of themselves, there will be two reactions. The first reaction will be a "positive", in the up-loader's mind, the online community will praise these pictures showering the up loader in compliments. However the second reaction will be a swarm of negative comments and insults which "judge" the up loader. Overall I think that having an online identity might be fun for a while but in the long turn might engender consequences.
Should we behave online the same way we interact with people offline?
Online some people will have a different identity, but there are others who will have the same personality off-line. I would not know about people whose personality changes online because i do not own a Face book, Myspace etc. Everyday in the news you will hear a report on child abduction or rape, cases like these cause concern. Most of the time a child will state that they had met the person online and that they did not expect their physical meeting to turn negatively.  I strongly believe that as humans we owe it to ourselves to be honest to ourselves and others. This meaning that if you feel as if you are in a bad social position do something about it, but not to the point that you will become someone else. There are always things that one can do that are within one's boundaries, that you will not have to behave differently online or off-line.
If we are online, are we responsible for our own actions and behaviors?
If you are writing posts online, or putting someone else's picture online then you are responsible for your actions. A lot of social networks allow the up loader to delete or edit posts. If you write a post that you did not like or felt that was insulting when you did not mean it then you can delete it or edit it. I have heard of stories where people insult others online but off-line they are friends. I honestly do think that whatever someone writes online is their full responsibility. For example as I am writing this i know the responsibility that i withhold, that in this post i could be offending someone but i chose not to. I f the day were to come that I do happen to offend someone then thanks to this site i will be able to edit my post. If someone were to post risky pictures of themselves then they know exactly what they are doing.

After watching “Growing Up Online”, I felt somewhat disturbed. My parents had always told me the dangers of being on social networks but it is the first time that I hear of someone talking from first hand experience. Looking back on my education of internet, there were many things that were left out. My parents themselves did not know a lot about he internet so they asked my brother to inform me. However other characters in the clip were not as fortunate, they had to learn the hard way. They grew addictions to their online personas, like Autumn who was once a reserved girl, but online became popular. She was compared to pornography, she broke down in tears upon remembering this, saying that she never wanted to be like other girls who would show their underwear on their pages.

My online life has had an impact on my life. I really did not know about the internet until i was in middle school, more like I did not get to use it until then. I did not get my gmail until the middle of my freshman year, I only got it to keep in touch with a small portion of my friends. When I was in Middle School I felt like an outcast because everyone had their myspace, they would always talk about their friend requests. I always use my gmail for emailing my friends, and I use it to message people about the work that they want me to revise. I do not have a facebook or myspace, I only have my gmail, and most of the time it is the best way to communicate with me other than in person. O my gmail I have been able to so a lot of things because it has different functions, but it usually gets used for google voice and emailing. I usually keep in touch with friends that I hardly get to talk to in school.
