Blog Assignment #7B: Getting Stuff Done on Time

I found this to be a very interesting question. especially since anyone that has gone to school has fallen victim to procrastination. I think that it is some sort of mindset, the majority of the time, the homework that students do not finish are the homework items that take more than ten minutes. On a personal level, I know that many students do not finish their homework because of:  they think that they will be able to finish it very quickly, they dont understand, the homework is a project, they are doing "other thing",  or they forgot. The most prominent reason that they were “doing other things” , tis can stretch into a variety of activities, some of them that you don’t want to know, and others that are surprisingly worth listening to.

Blog Assignment #6B: The Ship of Theseus

I found this question difficult to answer. But I have decide that ultimately it remains to be more or less Theseus’s ship. Throughout the years of its existence it has remained holding the same presence that it did before: that it is Theseus’s ship. The later generations that replaced parts of the ship did so because the ship held some sort of sentimental value, in their minds when they were repairing the ship they never thought that one day all of the ship’s original pieces would be replaced.  And even after the final original piece of the ship was taken of those descendants recognized that was once Theseus’s ship.  I had gotten a 3,00 year old ship , so I had to think that maybe one day the majority would have to be replaced, since it was already rotting. However if you think about it from the a different point of view: material wise, then it is not Theseus’ ship anymore. By the time that Jon notices that all the original wood has been replaced, in this sense the ship is no longer Theseus’s ship. The only way that the ship is Theseus’s ship is by considering it’s sentimental value over the materialistic aspect.

Yan out ill...again - Blog for 02/21/2012

It was dark and gloomy, but I was just so bored I didn't know what to do.
I looked over my bed to stare at the flashing alarm clock that was displaying 11:03 and becoming very annoying, I pulled my covers over my head in a futile attempt to go to sleep again. From my sanctuary I could hear my sister yelling at me to get up. I did not want to pay attention to her, but I suddenly found myself growing even more attentive to the slight sound of footsteps coming closer. My sister had come in order to infiltrate my room, I had seconds to plan my counterstrike. She opened the door to my room, from beneath my covers I began to make a canon ball out of my blankets. She didn't see it coming, but on her first step inside my room I threw my canon at her, and I heard her grimace loudly in pain. I silently laughed in success, as she retreated from my room. I picked up my thrown covers and put them back onto my bed. I then returned to my bed, and I started to sleep again. I awoke outside of a hotel room marked 503, my breath began to falter. Then behind me a server came with a tray full of plated food, and he exclaimed for me to move out of the way. I turned around as the server returned to stare at me," Are you room 503's occupant?". I turned to face him in surprise, I felt something cold in my hand: a key. The male server took it from my hand and said, "Why in you go" as he led me inside and laid the tray of food on a night stand close  to the bed. The server left, I rushed to look at the tray the plates were streaming and slowly filled the room with smells of Chicken and Mashed potatoes. I took the tray and sat myself down next to the large window of the room, it was raining cats and dogs. In the distance I could see the sun peeking out of the clouds, I only continued to stare mindlessly. Someone then knocked on the door and called out my name in a female voice. She came into my room carrying a stack full of papers, she laid them on my bed and asked me to sign them, saying that she would be back in a couple of hours. I finished my lunch and looked over at the clock it flashed 11:03, it seemed to be an radio clock. It played " Almost Lover" , after it finished the DJ said " Such a cloudy day it is on April 13th 2017". April 13th, I thought to myself, I rushed over to the stack of napkins that the server left on the nightstand, on them the napkins had "Caesar's Palace"...
What? I was in Las Vegas, as I went into a flashback: where I was sitting with my friends and everyone was making plans to celebrate both my friend's and I's  twenty-first birthday which explained my current scenario.  I went out of my room and knocked on room 504, the person opened and to my surprise it was my friend, and I yelled Happy birthday as I wrapped my arms around him and I said " Happy Birthday, I better not be your designated driver". I then walked into the next room 505 and I found the rest of my friends were in there. I saw someone else who I deducted was my friend Keira, as she was wearing her birthday suit which consisted of a hat and a long white robe. She took me back into my room and said to change clothes in order to go out, she also said that the boys and girls would be separate until 7pm.There were five guys and four girls.  As soon as I got back into my room I finished signing the paperwork that was on my bed, which all seemed to be reservation forms. Then Keira grabbed my hand and told me that we were to be going shopping for clothes, I asked her why. Then I looked around my room and my question was answered: I only had brought a small side pack with me and a change of shirt that was a rather large flannel. We started walking outside of the Hotel part and exited the building, so we had to attack the first object of business: brunch. We went to Circus Circus for Brunch, and we actually took a while just talking about everything that had led us up to our Vegas Trip, but I could not say anything. Then we got a call from the guys saying that they wanted to split up into groups, since the majority of the group had their significant others with them on the trip they quickly agreed. Keira, my birthday friend and I were stuck together, which we actually didn't mind. The three of us decided that we would be going into New York New York, to play Texas Hold 'em, after we finally finished it was 4pm. My birthday friend said that he wanted to get out since the smell of cigar was overpowering our "pure" air. Keira then led us into the shopping district, even dragging my friend with us, she told us that today and tomorrow would be solely about my birthday friend and I. My birthday friend actually became my best friend during sophomore year, but Keira insinuated that both I and him went to the same University and stayed friends since then. Between Keira and I we managed to get my guy friend into a change of clothes that actually suited his serious yet fun loving demeanor, he actually seemed pleased with himself and then stared at me in my baggy jeans, flannel shirt and Converse all of which was topped off by my nerd glasses. Until he finally said, " You need to dress up for my birthday, Keira lets find her some clothes so that we match". Keira stared at me and said " This is going to be easy". She went into the next department and brought me a puffy magenta 80's style dress and shoved me, her and the dress into the changing room. After I managed to get the dress on she told me to take off my glasses, and I did, she told me to step out of the room. From across the store she called my friend, and he applauded Keira's work. and he said " Oh si, now we look like cool people". Keira's phone rang, telling us that it was already 7pm, we went into the Paris into their Restaurant called  the Eiffel Tower restaurant. We were the last to make it to the restaurant , everyone was already seated, and as soon as we got there they exclaimed,"Happy birthday you guys!".
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, and I woke up back in my room in my bed as yet again I turned to face my clock that read 12:00.

What do you prefer? Online or Brick-and-Mortar? Why? What advantages does each have over the others?

I personally like brick and mortar stores primarily because I can see the project that I am about to buy.  This especially applies to buying food and most of the time clothing items. However there are certain things that I would rather buy online: like specialty T's and some electronics. I switched to buying the majority of my anime online, I spent weeks looking for my Esca-Flowne in stores. Every store that I went into did not even know what Esca-Flowne even was, until a clerk told me that it was not going to be in stock anymore. I was forced to buy it online and I was actually surprised by how fast it actually arrived in my house, but the best part was not having to look at people who were looking at me as if I was wierd for asking about something they didnt recognize. My brother actually orders most of his electronics online, they dont take a long time to arrive to my house, and he says that he enjoys not having to deal with employees who sometimes dont even know what they are selling. However sometimes, mostly clothing departments, you can take others with you so if you are looking for something to wear you can always have the second opinion when you need it.

When you buy a product, who "owns" the product? Is it the company who created the product or is it the purchaser? The reason this is asked is that for most products, the purchaser owns it. However, for electronic devices, it is usually difficult to tell. For example, a DVD may not be copied, even though you bought the disc itself. Or, if you buy a video game console, you are prohibited from hacking or modding it by law.
I find this to be very interesting as much of what the previous comment is true, however not always will you think of this concept. I would honestly like to think that what you buy is yours, but when you look at fine print you notice a deeper context. For example game consoles cannot be modded, this basically meaning that you cannot change the console, if you do the company can actually sue you. Or when you buy a DVD, you are only renting the right to view it, despite you physically owning the disc. Even if two games pose similarities a company can sue another company. Suing  over rights is actually common nowadays especially with advances in technology. Megavideos has actually been shut down because of these very same accusations, by SOAPA and PIPA, as part of the federal attacks on the internet. The biggest fear has become internet censorship..

Blog Assignment #1B

How do you expect semester two to be different? the same? What will you do to improve on yourself to prove that you deserve a passing grade?

Even though it is already my second year in high school it feels like my first year, and I am ecstatic to say that I am passing my classes with B's or better.(I hold that as a sort of success) This year I had the chance to get close to some really amazing people but at the same time I had to let go of others. I find it difficult to admit that I only have two years and four months left in high school; however, I know that for a fact I will miss the people I got to know. I think that next semester I will focus on the now, my parents have always told me look forward to the future and stop living in the now, but i do that regardless, this time I will find a way to manage both. The only major conflict that seems to become recurring is my procrastination, but I'm pretty sure I will get over it if I better my time management.Aside from procrastination I honestly think that I should study more, most of the time I understand what I am doing but when a test is in front of me it looks like if it is written in some other language..
